Keep reading to find out more!

The innovation of smartphone industry keeps surprising the consumers in the recent year.  Among the innovation, the foldable smartphone can be said to be one of the biggest innovations or breakthroughs in terms of its design. When it comes to foldable smartphone, the biggest concern mostly falls on the folding part, doubting about the creases in the display.

Well, let’s have a quick review about Huawei Mate X!

– When folding –

Unlike the folding smartphones that we are familiar with, the Huawei Mate X is bending backwards, meaning that when we fold the screen into a double sided phone, the both screens will be facing outward. And what impress me most is that, when the phone is folding, the appearance is a completely flat screen without any gaps in between the screens.

Huawei Mate X is basically different from the competitor’s foldable smartphone, Samsung Galaxy Fold. The Samsung Galaxy Fold is folding inward, and there will be a small gap in between the two screens. Based on this, I would say that the design of Huawei Mate X is more considerate and beautifully created and presented.

– When opening –

There is a button to be pressed to unfold the phone, and the button is designed at the edge of the screen. It also appears to have a little grip like bar on the side of the screen, house components like a triple camera system. So when the phone is opening, in flat, you’ll get beautiful edge to edge screen with almost no bezels as the whole thing is wrapped around and presented with totally no extra buttons on the screen with only 5.5mm thickness!

– Size and Resolution –

The size of the front screen is 6.6 inches, ratio of 19.5:9, and 2480 x 1148 resolutions.

The rear screen measures 6.38 inches, ratio of 25:9, and 2480 x 892 resolutions.

The combined size is 8 inches, ratio of 8:7.1, 2480 x 2200 resolution, 5.5mm thickness.

– Hardware Configuration –

Huawei Mate X is equipped with the Kirin 980 chipset with the Balong 5000 modem, which has achieved the support for 5G networks.

There is only one version of storage combination, which is 8GB of RAM and 512GB of ROM, and the downlink speed is up to 4.6Gbps.

As for the SIM card, it supports dual cards: one supports up to 5G slots; one supports up to 4G slots, it can also be used for memory card expansion as well.

The battery capacity is 4500mAh. It comes with a charger that has a charging power of up to 55W. It is said that the Huawei Mate X can be charged and filled with 85% of power in just 30 minutes. It is called the SuperCharge, and this charger can also be the charger for any brand of laptop, it is expected to achieve fast charging effect.

Besides, it is said that the overall hinge mechanism of the Huawei Mate X is composed of more than 100 components!

– Power Button Design –

On the left edge of the phone, the fingerprint scanner embedded into the power button that’s along the side of the device. It is relatively unique and convenient to be powered.

– Camera –

Huawei Mate X has only a set of 4 lenses: 40MP wide-angle lens, 16MP super wide-angle lens and 8MP telephoto lens and TOF lens. As usual, the Huawei is co-engineered with Leica, it supports dual LED duotone flash, panorama and HDR.

Taking photo from the main camera can be done when the phone is folded or unfolded.

It is worth mentioning that when you want to take a selfie, there is no front camera and it can again be done with the main camera, and you can see your portrait in real time with mirror shooting. That also means when someone else is holding up the phone to take a photo of you, you can see yourself on the screen that’s facing you, to use it to adjust things like your posture, gesture, face and things like that. That is totally satisfying!

So, who still need the front camera after having Huawei Mate X?

Watching videos with such a large, ultra-slim and bezel-less screen is the definition of visual feast! So what if we use it for video games?

– Sharing of thoughts –

Foldable phones are more than just a gimmick, it’s apparent that a lot of thought was put into both the design and the usability of the phone. It’s going to be the next-generation device.

Now with the Huawei Mate X, there is no need to carry around 2 devices that can be done with just a foldable smartphone.

Having said that, would you be interested in purchasing a foldable smartphone with the price of 2,299 Euros (about RM10625)?
